9/11
Day of Remembrance

Submitted by David

My son came up to me today and asked me about 9/11. This is what he asked and how I responded.

"Dad, is 9/11 a holiday?"

"Not officially. But as far as I am concerned it is."

"Is it like Patriots Day? I see alot of flags."

"It's a little like Patriots Day. For both celebrate being American and what that stands for."

"Then, is it like Veterans Day? I hear people talking about soldiers and stuff."

"It's a little like Veterans Day. For both celebrate those who fight to keep us free. However, 9/11 does not just celebrate soldiers. It also celebrates the police, fire department, and everyone else that works to keep us safe."

"So, what exactly IS it? Does everyone just call it 9/11?"

"Everyone calls it 9/11 because it is not an official holiday. But people are begining to call it The Day of Remembrance. It's a day of mourning AND celebration. At 8:45 AM everyone has a moment of silence to remember those who died when the planes began crashing into the Twin Towers. It is a time to appreciate being alive. It is a day to celebrate how after the attack, America came together. It is a day to take pride in who you are and where you live. I guess to sum it up I should say it is a day to remember those that died on 9/11 by doing something for your community and thanking those that do such things in their daily lives."

God bless America and those who help make it the best place in the world.
