For over seventy-five years The Blaine House has served as the official residence of Maine's Governors and their families. For the seventy-five years before that the house was home to the family of James G. Blaine, Speaker of the U.S. House, U.S. Senator, Secretary of State under two presidents and a near-victor for the presidency itself. It is a house that has been admired by Maine people for 150 years. It has served as a vital part of state government and as a sanctuary for the public figures that have lived here. This wonderful book offers readers not only great recipes from the Blaine House kitchen, but a first-hand glimpse at the families that have lived here and endeavored to conduct ordinary lives in an extraordinary place. Phyllis Siebert came here a quarter of a century ago and has been part
of this house longer than anyone outside of the Blaine family. Common agreement
amongst all the governors and first families that have lived here during
her tenure is that she is a true caregiver. Her presence has always
been the force that has held the line to maintain the integrity of the
house and the feeling of home for the occupants of the second floor. She
has shared in all the victories, losses, joy and sorrow and has done so
with dignity. The words she has written mirror that dignity as she tells
the story of the last quarter century here at The Blaine House. We are
sure you will enjoy the insight of Recipes and Reminiscences from
the kitchen. Our families know we are so fortunate to be part of the Phyllis
Siebert Blaine House legacy.
